inside-Don’t-Let-Your-Hands-Give-Away-Your-Age

With aging, the skin on the back of the hands gets thinner, loses its elasticity, and begins to show signs of photo aging; so that by the early 40’s most women (and men) will notice brown spots , loose wrinkly skin and more prominent veins on the back of the hand.

Given the amount of time, effort and products we put into keeping our faces looking healthy and vibrant, it’s a shame to let our hands give the game away, as it were. Now, we have the opportunity not only to address the photo aging (brown spots) via intense pulsed light treatments (IPL), but also to dramatically improve the texture of fine lines and wrinkled skin and to camouflage prominent veins with Radiesse- the only FDA and Health Canada approved product for hand rejuvenation.

Age spots

Patients cannot be advised strongly enough to have the area examined carefully by a physician prior to commencing laser treatments, as hands are the most common area to be affected by premalignant changes and outright skin cancer. Common precancerous lesions seen in this area include actinic keratoses- warty -like growths that need to be treated with cryotherapy- while if ignored, may progress into squamous cell carcinomas. Only a physician can diagnose/treat these lesions- which may also occur on the anterior chest wall (decolletage ) or the face – esp the nose and temples.

At The Lazer Room, Dr Hyland will examine all patients prior to IPL treatments. She herself will biopsy any suspicious moles or treat pre-cancerous lesions with cryotherapy or Aldara (an alternate treatment for actinic keratoses) .* covered by MCP.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

This treatment is recommended for benign pigmented lesions of the face, neck, chest, hands and forearms. A course of 5-6 treatments at 2-4 week intervals will result in a significant cosmetic improvement. IPL is not recommended for darker skin types or persons who have recently been sun tanning, using sunbeds or tanning accelerators, due to the risk of blistering.

* Individual Results May Vary

This Calcium Hydroxyapatite filler is injected subcutaneously into the back of the hands in the spaces between veins and smoothed to give an instant rejuvenating effect that should last over a year. In addition to the “instant gratification”  effect, this filler stimulates the production of collagen, leading to thickening and improvement in skin texture over time, helping to disguise prominent veins.
